Entry 5: Why I Choose Your Images — And Why That's Better For You

Why I Deliver a Curated Gallery | Little Goose Lane Photography
When I tell people that I choose their images — not them — I usually get one of two reactions.
Either they look slightly relieved. Or they look slightly panicked.
If you are in the second group, I understand. We live in a world where more feels like better. More options, more choices, more control. So the idea of a photographer handing you 40 images instead of 400 and saying "these are yours" might feel a little uncomfortable at first.
But here is what I have learned in alll of my years of doing this.
More images does not mean better images. It means more work for you, and a harder time finding the ones that actually matter.

The Problem With Too Many Images
Imagine opening a gallery of 600 photographs from your family session (that is not an exaggeration)
. Your toddler in seventeen nearly identical poses. Six shots of your baby mid-blink. Forty-three images of roughly the same moment from slightly different angles or perhaps even the same angle.
Now imagine trying to choose your favorites from that.
Most people spend hours ,sometimes days, agonizing over which images to keep, which to delete, which to print. They second guess themselves. They ask their partner. They ask their mother. They still aren't sure.
And somewhere in that overwhelming pile of options, the magic gets lost.

What a Curated Gallery Actually Is
When I deliver your gallery I have already done that work for you.
I have gone through every single image from your session-often hundreds and hundreds of frames-and I have chosen the 40 that tell your story most beautifully. The ones where the light falls perfectly.
The ones where the connection is real. The ones where something honest and unexpected happened that I almost missed.
Those 40 images are not random. They are chosen with the same eye and intention I brought to your session. The same twenty years of knowing what makes a photograph worth keeping.
Every one is delivered in both color and black and white. Because color tells you what something looked like. Black and white tells you how it felt.
You deserve both.

Why This Is Better For You
A curated gallery means:
You open it and love every single image because the ones that didn't make the cut were never going to be your favorites anyway.
You spend your time enjoying your images instead of sorting through them.
You have 40 images that work together as a cohesive story of your family in this exact season of life.
You have images worth printing, worth framing, worth keeping forever- not a hard drive full of near-duplicates you never quite get around to doing anything with.

A Note on Trust
I know that handing over that control requires a certain amount of trust.
And I do not take that lightly.
When you book a session with me you are trusting me with your family -with your kids on an ordinary Tuesday evening, with the way your partner looks when they think nobody is watching, with the chaos and the tenderness and the real life of it all.
Trusting me to choose your images is part of that same relationship. I am not cutting corners. I am not
delivering the easy ones. I am choosing the ones I would want if this were my own family.
That is the only standard I know.
